Ryan McGinness Exhibit in La Jolla
In late April, we drove down to the heart of scenic La Jolla to check out Ryan McGinness' exhibit at the Quint Contemporary Art gallery. The show was perfectly titled "A Rich Fantasy Life". All the paintings in the show were sold out two days before the opening. Prices ranged from 30 to 150K. There were few prints available for 15 to 20K.
Those of you who don't know, Ryan McGinness is a New York-based artist. Other than the Beautiful Loser show, this was his largest works to date. McGinness' work consists of an amalgam of icons and symbols, incorporating strong social commentary on iconography, language, and historical and contemporary symbolism. Here are some pics...
