Ryan McGinness Exhibit in La Jolla

In late April, we drove down to the heart of scenic La Jolla to check out Ryan McGinness' exhibit at the Quint Contemporary Art gallery. The show was perfectly titled "A Rich Fantasy Life". All the paintings in the show were sold out two days before the opening. Prices ranged from 30 to 150K. There were few prints available for 15 to 20K.

Those of you who don't know, Ryan McGinness is a New York-based artist. Other than the Beautiful Loser show, this was his largest works to date. McGinness' work consists of an amalgam of icons and symbols, incorporating strong social commentary on iconography, language, and historical and contemporary symbolism. Here are some pics...

David Flores Studio Visit

On March 10th, I bum-rushed to The Tempt One Art Benefit" benefit show. This exhibit was to raise funds for Tony 'Tempt' Quan featuring approximately 100 artists (fellow graffiti artists and contemporary legends) who joined for this event in sole support of Tempt. Legendary urban artists such as Barry McGee, Haze, Mr. Cartoon, and Shepard Fairey created original artwork for this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition. I missed the VIP/collector's party earlier in the day because I had in-laws in town.

I did make it to the reception party in the evening. I purchased an original David Flores piece from the show not knowing David Flores had his own reception party next door at the Project gallery. Bummed as I was, I arranged to meet David Flores in his Studio in Santa Barbara. We visited his studio in mid April. Here are some pictures....

February Guest of the Month...

One cool thing about having guests is that we get the opportunity to hit up all the tourists spots. In mid February, we had the pleasure of entertaining my sister-in-law and her son, Stephanie and Griffin. It was also a special occasion because Steph was celebrating her birthday on the same weekend. I couldn't be a good host because of my work obligations but here are some pictures from their trip...

Griff and Asha at the Grove in L.A.

Birthday celebration in Corona at the King's Seafood restaurant.

Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Nice purses...

And the perfect spot for a family photo.

Asha kickin' it with Steph and Griff in Pasadena.
